My name is Henry Palmer, and I am a high school student at The Lawrenceville School of New Jersey. My goal with this blog is to analyze the business side of the rapidly developing world of green alternatives. Through postings on the continually evolving landscape of technology improvements, regulatory/subsidy/tax policies, and legislative changes to better capture social costs and externalities, I will try to comment on what sustainable options make good business sense today, as well as in the near future. The title, “Green to Black” reflects my objective of investigating and reflecting on ways in which we as a society can both produce and incentivize returns from environmentally-friendly products and infrastructure choices. Just as “Black Friday”, the day after Thanksgiving, is named for the fact that many retailers flip their year from loss-making (red print in the accounts) to profitable (black print), Green to Black will comment on the ways that new science, better operations and changes in policy can move sustainable business options from “Nice-to-Haves” into “Clear Wins” for those who pursue them.
